Chair update- or Plan B
Fri. Feb, 2009 by Amy
Well, I have one more week to finish this chair. I no longer say “we” because it has become a solo project at this point. After attempting to grow grass once, and alfalfa twice on the sides and inside back of the chair, a new plan is in place. There were landslides, a mushroom grew, and then the alfalfa collapsed again and molded. The original grass was choked out by the more attractive wheat grass which did not look good. Realistically, this does not make a high-bidding item. Also, there is the issue of who will take care of it between the time it arrives for the auction, then the auction, etc. It is a high maintenance chair and needs to be watered and cut, and even weeded. Always good to have a Plan B.
I had in my mind all along an idea to incorporate some items from nature (well, and some nature items we already had in the office that were purchased at IKEA). I’m really excited about the new direction the chair is going, and since it is due end of next week, there will be no Plan C. In some ways, it is actually much more sustainable since it will not require water. I would post a picture but I need to recharge the camera so hopefully a wonderful surprise will be coming soon.
