I was able to continue our forays into wine country last Friday. It ended up being an 8 hour adventure with some fantastic women. We had the opportunity for a private tour to see The Allison Inn and Spa opening August 2009, is a 35-acre hillside destination hotel in Newberg, Oregon. It will be surrounded by working vineyards, paths, gardens and water features.

We met with the general manager Pierre Zreik who took us through the building to see the plans and hotel model room. We were surprised to see Ken Austin’s incredible automobile collection en route. Even though I know almost nothing about cars, this was a museum of auto history with beautiful cars ranging from the earliest 1900’s, cars built originally from a Sear’s catalog kit, to the luxury cars of the 50’s and classics of the 60’s.

The Austin family is a talented and very down-to-earth group. The details they have added to The Allison are amazing and will surely bring many visitors into wine country to stay in the heart of the vineyards. The natural settings are very organic yet refined, it is luxurious but very in keeping with the area.

After the tour, we had dinner at Cana’s Feast Winery- delicious food and wines, the setting was amazing.

We continued the fun with a concert at George Fox University where we were generously invited by the Austins to watch the Oregon Symphony. Featuring guest artist Byron Stripling and conducted by Jeff Tyzik, the concert was a tribute to the music of New Orleans.

It was a lively performance, with a lot of laughs (unusual for the symphony I know). It was a fun day and nice opportunity to meet some very interesting and talented people.
