Twittering around
Thu. May, 2009 by Amy
There is a lot of talk about Social Media as it has become an integral part of business. Now that everyone (and literally their mother) is on Facebook, it has become more than a social network. Businesses have their own Fan Pages and can broadcast their events and news using this method. Twitter is hot, and although it seems to me that the 40 and under crowd is embracing it the most- it is an amazing way to get news immediately, as it is happening. Once you get the hashtags and ampersand language down, you can run with it. Linked In, which I view as mostly a business networking tool (rather than the social element), is extremely popular and helpful- I don’t use it enough actually.
Facebook and Twitter do more than convey news and create networks of people, they help build your brand by giving you a personality. Each message you send conveys more than the words- are you wild, funny, quirky, intelligent, or just serious? I’ll be the first to admit I am not an early adopter of these applications. While I am on Linked In, I don’t necessarily “work” it. I do have a blog- la voilá! My Facebook page is limited to a smaller social network where I can talk about daily matters, but also gives me an instant network for reccommendations, needs (such as a cell phone drive), and keeps me up to date on trends or topics such as Susan Boyle (you should know who she is). GROW has a facebook page that is not being utilized at the moment. We are also on Twitter (growcreative), and by we, I mean me. Through Twitter I can learn about last minute deals- such as when Indie Fest offered a huge discount during the last two hours of their event, I can also find out if the work out room in our office is finally available thanks to our little building group #OMCC.
Depending on your comfort level, time, and enjoyment of updating there is a fit for you in the large social media networks. We’ll discuss your needs and ability and help you choose the best path to take. Bon Tweet!
