Field Trip to Torii Mor

Fri. Mar, 2009 by Amy

As part of our plan to experience a wide variety of tasting rooms, and –well, because it is always fun to get out from behind the computer — we headed out to Torii Mor last Friday. We plan to make explorations a monthly event. We’d do it weekly, but we’ve got to get the work done too!

I met one of the owners, Margie Olson, at the Wine Symposium last month and was immediately drawn to her friendly and approachable personality. Her Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir was one of the tastings before the wine dinner and it was absolutely outstanding.

I’ve always been curious about Torii Mor and their Japanese aesthetic which is very apparent on their wine labels, so Jonathan and I went out to visit for ourselves.

Last Friday was beautiful and sunny. A perfect day to be outside in the vineyards. The view from the tasting room is located is incredible, and they have created a very calm, zen-like garden inside the woods that surround the area. Small details abound, and it would be a very nice place to wander with a glass of wine.

Inside we found a very knowledgeable and friendly tasting room manager, Steven, calmly managing to keep all his guests glasses filled, wine expertise delivered, and purchases completed. The tasting was very good, and we ended up picking up a couple of very nice Pinots: “Deux Verres” and Hawks View Vineyard.

I liked the friendly, relaxed and cozy ambiance, and would take friends and family there. They mentioned some plans for future expansion that sounded exciting. We look forward to our next visit!

If you have any recommendations for other wineries to visit, please leave it in the comments! We’ll also be visiting all our current clients to see the experience from the “tourist” perspective, rather than the inside meeting room.
