Oregon Wine Symposium- part 1

Thu. Feb, 2009 by Amy

I have a lot to blog about after 3 days in Eugene at the Oregon Wine Symposium.
Don’t worry I won’t do it all in one post. This was my third time attending, I feel it is important to hear what the wineries are hearing, show our clients that we are involved and make new contacts.

It was not all fun and games, although I’m not complaining about staying at the Hilton and having an amazing dinner with more wine pairings than I have every experienced.
I attended the marketing sessions of course (rather than the viticulture ones), and will give a quick summary.

I kept thinking of how most of this information can be applied to our own business, or possibly any business. How it is not as much a matter of waiting out bad times in the economy, but of getting creative and finding new ways to improve and increase business. It is all about networking and being part of a larger community, sharing information openly is the way of the future.

Here are the sessions I attended:

How consumers buy wine; What smaller wineries can learn
Marketing the Oregon wine category in challenging times
Optimizing distributor effectiveness for small wineries (this was interesting from an overview perspective more than practical for me)
Maximizing Wine Country tourism traffic and dollars
Tips, tricks, and best practices for clearing and protecting your brand.
Sell more wine online! Gain new customers, but keep the old

See what I mean? Not all partying by any means.

I will post a quick synopsis on each in the next day or two.
